Medical Social Worker
Medical conditions affect the patient as well as their families. Social workers help with their emotional, financial, and social needs. They may work with just the patient, but many times may work with the whole family. Some of the regular duties include providing psychotherapy, supportive or grief counseling or therapy, treating or diagnosing psychological conditions, help with deciding different healthcare options, writing advanced directives, placement decisions or assistance, or making end of life planning. They also work to help connect patients and families to resources and supports in their community, and expanding or strengthening their social network for support.
