Do I need special equipment to participate?
No. Most electronics today (computer, tablet, phones) already have everything you need within the device and connect to a high speed internet. That’s it. If you have difficulty hearing or concentrating you may also want a headset. Need more details? Click here.
Why don't you take insurance?
Private pay allows us to provide you services based on your needs or interests, and not be dictated by what your insurance will reimburse us for. We also offer wellness and fitness programs not typically found under insurance guidelines for coverage. Our treatments offer you one-on-one care with the same highly skilled clinician every time unlike traditional clinics. And not being bogged down with the administrative time and costs of most traditional clinics, our energy can be spent on patients, not paperwork.
We will provide you with an itemized receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider to be reimbursed for our services, typically based on an “out of network’ rate. Please check with your insurance provider to determine your coverage.
Does Rehab Smarter treat all age groups?
Yes, we have experience in all ages, from infants to elderly, and all diagnoses. During the intake assessment we will connect you to the best suited clinician for you, based on their area of expertise, and state you reside in, unless you specify a specific clinician.
How can you do Physical and Occupational Therapy Online without actually touching the person?
An effective assessment and treatment plan can be performed by skilled clinicians using primarily visual examination, interview and education. Much of therapy treatment is about teaching the client and/or their care providers how to perform or assist with an activity or skill and making the appropriate compensations or obtaining the right equipment and home modifications. Techniques performed by therapists can be taught over videoconferencing, videos, and written direction the same as we would do in in-person clinics. When demonstration is needed we can use ourselves and human models to demonstrate. If assistance is needed, we can train your care provider. Through the screening portion of our process, we can identify the select situations that online telerehabilitation is not appropriate and will refer you to appropriate local in-person facilities.
How is the difference between Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy?
Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapists are all medical professionals trained to help clients recover, adapt or improve their physical and/or cognitive abilities to function. These specialized clinicians help expedite the recovery time, reduce the chance for complications, prevent injury and/or further illness, and allow the individual and those in their care the highest quality of life possible. All therapies practice in almost all clinical settings and treat all age groups, from neonates to the elderly.
There is some overlap between all three therapies of what each discipline is trained and qualified to perform making it confusing to the lay person. More than one discipline may be addressing the same deficits but the actual treatment, care plan and goals are specific to the discipline’s area of expertise and focus. For example, if a person has difficulty eating, Speech may address the process of breaking down and safe swallowing of food or liquid while the Occupational Therapist focuses on the act of feeding and meal preparation and Physical Therapy with postural control and balance to sit safely. Is insurance going to reimburse me for the services?
Many insurance companies are starting to recognize telehealth services. The diagnostic codes and service codes we use are the same ones used at any local clinic or office. It is best however to call and ask what services are covered as each person’s provider and plan differ. On request, we can provide you with a detailed bill to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
How do I know what services I need?
If you don’t know what services you need, no worries. Part of our job is to help you find the best clinicians and resources to assist you in achieving your goals.
If you are practicing over the internet, how can I be sure my information will be kept private?
We use HIPPA compliant software and a secure patient portal for all client-related electronic or written communications, a HIPPA compliance web conferencing platform, and provide services using HIPPA compliant practices. Data is encrypted as it transmits over the internet to further ensure privacy and stored in HIPPA compliant, password protected cloud systems. All client sessions are done over password, protected computers in secure private areas. The only persons who have access to this data is you and your Rehab Smarter clinician(s).
What if I lose connection or cannot connect with you over the internet?
Although connections typically remain intact, there is always the remote possibility that the connection gets interrupted or lost, such as a storm causing a power outage. Should this happen we will contact you and either attempt to reconnect or set up another time at your convenience to provide services.
