What is telerehabilitation?

Telerehabilitation or tele-rehabilitation is the delivery of Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapy over the internet.   It encompasses a full range of rehabilitation, habilitation, prevention and wellness services and is a recognized and accepted form of therapy services.

Telerehabilitation visits provide a level of convenience and speed of service unlike those that can be offered in an office. It saves time, money and hassle. There is no travel time or waiting. If a patient is sick or post surgery, they don’t have to get dressed and wait in an office. During flu season, the patient is not exposed to other people’s germs.  It even reduces the burden on the clinical staff, allowing them to see more patients with less staff.  It offers increased and improved access to healthcare and allows patients to receive specialized services not available in their area.

The patient does not have to be technically savvy.  Visits are done in the comfort of the patient’s own home or office. Patients who have used telehealth report high satisfaction with the service. Studies prove that the quality and outcome of these visits are equal, if not better than, in-office visits for all types of care, including neurological, orthopedic, cardiopulmonary care.  Clinicians enjoy the ability to treat the patient more efficiently and effectively. And from a cost perspective, it is less of a financial burden for all involved.

Sessions are still performed by qualified, licensed clinicians that use the most current, high quality, evidenced based care and are HIPAA compliant.

At Rehab Smarter, our high quality sessions are live, online, HIPAA compliant, and performed in the comfort and privacy of your home.  These video sessions are held in a format similar to Facetime or Skype sessions but are HIPAA compliant.  There are no waiting rooms or long commutes to a distant center.  Because there are fewer distractions, these sessions are more efficient and productive, and you see the same clinician each time. Treatment is face-to-face and as personable as in person.

Patients fill out their paperwork for initial visits by email or online through their patient portal. Once an appointment is scheduled, the patient is provided a link to join a session with the clinician. From there the experience is very similar to what one would expect in an office, with the only exception being the encounter is face to face using a computer, tablet screen or smartphone.

Rehab Smarter provides rehabilitation for almost any congenital or acquired illness, injury, treatment or surgery.  We also specialize in Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Autism, Head and Spinal Cord Injury) as well as chronic diseases (e.g. Chronic Pain, Diabetes. Our clinicians also provide prevention and wellness.  Learn how you can prevent or manage your illness before problems start!
